The board opened the meeting with the approval of the consent agenda, including:
a. Approved the agenda
b. Approved minutes of previous meeting
c. Approved financial report, payment of bills, and payroll
d. Approved Drivers Education Fee for 2023
e. Approved Regular BOE meetings to be held on the 2nd Monday of each month
f. Approved Board officer elections for 2023-2024 to be held at the July 2023 BOE organizational meeting
g. Approved KASB Policy Recommendations (GAAB, GCRF, IDAB, IFA, JBE, JCE, JDD, KN, LED – deleted)
Learned that the KESA report might be in the ARC committee this month and then may be ready to be considered by the State Board of Education in February.
The board was reminded that the free ACT test for juniors is scheduled for March 28, 2023.
The board learned that the process of evaluating and revising Jayhawk’s crisis plan has begun.
The board was told that an item being discussed in legislature is an interstate compact, which would set a benchmark for teacher licensure across the country.
Discussion of the auditorium revealed that renovations are in full swing. The stage floor was installed over winter break and work is set to begin on the dressing room and storage area within the next few weeks.
Board members Kitty Rhynerson and Daniel Earnest were approved to be USD 346 Board of Education Negotiating Team members.
The board then discussed the possibility of students being able to earn embedded credit through CTE/STARS program. In doing so, students could earn one English (Senior English) and one Math credit through their CTE/STARS program work if they choose to do so and if it meets the set criteria. This will be revisited at the February meeting.
Following executive session, the Board approved the employment of Terri Gentry as summer driver’s education instructor and accepted the resignation of Lacey Earnest as school nurse.
